David W. Dickson, age 83, a longtime resident of Chattanooga went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 20th. David was born in Mansfield, Ohio in 1929, to the late Ralph and Lois Finney Dickson. He was raised on a farm in Lexington, Ohio and was the fifth generation to work and own the family farm. He excelled in basketball and baseball for the LHS Minutemen. He received certificates from Kent State University and Ashland College and studied voice at Ohio State University where he further developed his baritone voice and lifelong love of opera.
A native of Ohio he spent 36 years of his business career with the Tappan Company. From 1983 through 2007 he was owner of Fortune Consultants of Chattanooga. He was an active member of Tyner United Methodist Church where he served in the Chancel Choir and in various leadership positions. He was most recently a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death are brothers and sisters, Alice Proctor, Ralph Dickson, James Dickson, Robert Dickson, and Betty McKnight.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Brenda Dickson of Chattanooga; and children, Linda Jo (Morris) Walter of Fortville, Indiana, Steve (Cindy) Reddy of Houston, Texas, Connie Kalweit of Angelfire, New Mexico, Brook (Kurt) Navratil of Roanoke, Virginia, David Carter Dickson of Cartersville, Georgia, Marcie (K.P.) Rumfelt of Indiana; and Lyn (Patrick) Douglas of Dalton, Georgia. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanor Jane Dinkel of Cleveland, Ohio and Janet (John) Crnkovich of Hudson, Ohio. There are many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on April 23, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Ridgedale Baptist Church followed by the funeral service conducted by Dr. Bill Owens, in the sanctuary. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Ridgedale Baptist Church or Hospice of Chattanooga.
