She was born in New Tazewell, TN and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ella Thompson Leonard. Hope Alton, her step-father, was her “Beloved Daddy”. Betty was a member of the Ooltewah Baptist Church, Fidelis Sunday School Class and a member of the W.M.U. She was a 50 year member of the Ooltewah Order of the Easter Star #365. Betty retired from McKee Foods and was a volunteer at H.A.C.O.B.A. and helped deliver food with the Meals on Wheels organization.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Wayne Winkler.
Survivors include her two sons and daughter-in-laws, Wayne E. and Betty Winkler of Ooltewah, TN and Nick and Nicki Winkler of Harrison, TN; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Betty was able to witness the fifth generation in her family be born.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at Martin-Boyd Assisted Living and to Hospice of Chattanooga for all the care they provided to Betty.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Friday, October 14, 2022, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jeremy Colloms officiating. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ooltewah Baptist Church, 5514 Main Street, Ooltewah, TN 37363.
