Amy Lyn Kerin

Amy Lyn Kerin, 46, of Chattanooga passed away suddenly, but peacefully, on November 1, 2020. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on March 21, 1974, she was diagnosed with spina bifida and her doctors suggested that she would have little time on this earth. It was the first, but not the last, time she would defy the odds given to her. She went on to graduate from Karns High School in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1992, earned a degree in recreational therapy from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and with the help of Habitat for Humanity, built her own house and lived independently. Overcoming physical hardships, she learned to drive a car and be mobile, rode horses, learned sign language, traveled the country, and loved to attend country music concerts. She loved her job and co-workers at Signal Centers in Chattanooga, and enjoyed catching up on her favorite soap operas during her time off. She adored and was constantly surrounded by her family, especially her nieces and nephews, and she will be missed by countless friends.

She is preceded in death by her father, Tim Kerin, and niece, Brennan Ogle.

She is survived by her mother and other father, Mary Lou and Bill Sweenie, her other mother, Zibbie Kerin, her twin brother and sister-in-law, Bo Kerin (Leslie), sisters Tara Kerin, Lorie Butts (Jeff), Beth Wildsmith (Mike), Susan Key, and Barbara Key-Ogle. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews Katelyn and Thomas Kerin, Taylor, Morgan, and Josh Voyles, and Brittany and Logan Patch. She is also mourned by several aunts, uncles, cousins, grand-nieces and nephews, and so many friends. A piece of her positive, loving spirit will be with all who knew her. Pass the love along.

In lieu of flowers, please send contributions or volunteer time to Paws with a Cause, who provided Amy her companion and service dog, Guinness; Habit for Humanity, who provided her with a home; Shangri-La Therapeutic Academy of Riding, who provided her with confidence to overcome obstacles; or to All Things Kabuki, an organization close to her heart.

Due to COVID-19 precautions, there will be no public service at this time. A celebration of life will take place when we can safely gather.
