It is with great sadness that the family of Alton Taylor announces his passing after a long battle with illness, on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at the age of 80 years old. He was born on March 14, 1937 to Onie Albert and Elnor (Broadus) Taylor. Alton is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mrs. Lillie Mae and their four children, Albert Taylor, Nathan Taylor, Lorraine (Jay) Scurry, and Edward (Ann) Taylor. He is in the loving memory of his brothers, Tommy Taylor and David Taylor and two sisters, Vivian Lowery and Ida Mae Jowers. He is fondly remembered by his three grandchildren, Paul Williams, Jerry Taylor and Britney Taylor and four great-grandchildren, John Nathan Taylor, Marrisa Taylor, Taylor Williams and David Butler. He is predeceased by his brothers, Onie “Sonny” Taylor, Jr., Gordie Taylor, George Taylor and one sister, Ora Belle Sprinkle. A native of Bayo La Batre, Alton had a 38-year career as a Maritime Boat Captain. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He married Ms. Lillie Mae Powell in 1955, making Chatom their home. After retiring from the open seas, Alton opened Taylor Sea Food Shop in Chatom. He was a devoted Christian and senior member of New Life Fellowship Church and served as a deacon. He enjoyed writing and singing Christian song lyrics and shared them with his fellow church members. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on November 26, 2017 at New Life Fellowship Church with the Rev. Danny Wilson and Larry Thompson officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the family cemetery at 874 Springbank Church Road in Chatom. Pallbearers will be Jason Williams, Paul Williams, Jerry Taylor, Stephan Taylor, Ricky Schley and James Singlteton.
