Mary was born and raised in Cranford, NJ. She attended Georgian Court College, in Lakewood, NJ, and would eventually settle in Lakewood shortly after her and George married. Mary was a high school Spanish teacher in Raritan, NJ, for nearly 30 years before her retirement in 2000. Mary, George, and Shaun relocated to Chatham shortly after Mary's retirement.
Upon her retirement, Mary spent the majority of her time focused on her family and church community. She was an active member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Chatham, MA, where she served as the President for the church's women's group for a number of years. Mary took great joy in organizing the church's annual summer fair, as well as gathering and donating toys and clothing for local children during the Christmas holiday. Mary was also an active member of the local food pantry. In addition to her work at the church and food pantry, Mary was an avid craft woman, who made beautifully handcrafted greeting cards and gift tags, which she sold at summer craft fairs throughout the cape.
Mary's caring and giving nature was born of her humble beginnings in northern New Jersey. Mary was incredibly passionate about teaching young people and empowering them with the knowledge they needed to effect legitimate change in the world. Perhaps her greatest strength was not the knowledge she shared, but her ability to listen quietly to someone in order to truly understand who the person was and how she could best help them thrive in this ever changing world. Whether it was her students, family, women in her church group, or even a new acquaintance, Mary always sought to bring out the best in people.
Besides her husband George and son Shaun, Mary is survived by her daughter-in-law Alexa, and her three furry grand-puppies, Virginia Belle, Hazel, and Sassafras.
A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday August 11th, at the Holy Redeemer Church in Chatham, MA.
