John James "Snooky" Maguire was born in Salem Mass. on June 25th, 1934. He lived in Salem for 37 years. He also resided in Brewster and Harwich Mass. for over 45 years. John passed away peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital on January 13th, 2018.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alicia J. (Wroblewski) Maguire, one daughter, Pamela, one granddaughter, Kristina. Also survived by 3 younger brothers. George E. and wife Marilyn "Minnie" Maguire from Harrison Maine. Peter J. Maguire from Lakeworth Florida and Robert M. "Boo" and wife Janet Maguire from West Yarmouth Mass. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son Michael P. Maguire and 2 younger brothers, David and Michael "Mickey" Maguire. John was the first son of George "Pat" and Lorraine (Drinkwater) Maguire of Salem Mass.
John attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Lynn Mass. for 13 years, graduated in 1952. He also attended Lowell Tech in Lowell Mass. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1957, served 4 years on an aircraft carrier. "Best 4 years of his life!" He was discharged with honors on April 28th, 1961. He married in September 1962 and worked in Lowell Mass. as a technical engineer. In 1971 John moved his family to Cape Cod, Mass. A longtime dream to live by the ocean.
John established and operated a few businesses on the Cape. "Brewster Garage" in 1971 with his 2 brothers. Then "Brothers Automotive" in West Harwich in 1972. He ran the auto parts store for many years until 1983. In his later years he worked part time for Cape Abilities for 12 years. He retired in May 2015. John enjoyed his few quiet years.
