Jack of West Chatham passed away at Liberty Commons in the early morning hours of November 3rd surrounded by fiancé Claire E. LeBlanc and her children Chantel Kilkenny and J. Thomas LeBlanc whom he considered to be his as well.
Jack was born in New York, NY on February 28, 1944, the son of the late George Gleason and the late Katherine Fehr Gleason. He grew up in Cresskill, NJ. Upon graduating High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. where he served from 1963-1967 in the United States and the Caribbean. He graduated from the University of Bridgeport in 1971 with a B.S. in Marketing. After leaving school, he began his professional career in capital campaign development with Community Counseling Service, Inc., organizing regional and state campaigns as far reaching as Dallas, TX, San Diego, CA and Honolulu, HI. Jack worked as a consultant for several firms and organizations, among them Parents and Children's Services of Boston until 1987, when he established John P. Gleason Associates as an Independent Development Consultant specializing in organizing capital campaigns and development programs to raise funds for the Catholic Church.
Jack was passionate about his work and his books about History. He was also known as "Horticultural Jack" because of his great love of the outdoors, especially planting of gardens and trees. He is survived by his sister Johanna "Mimi" Gleason of California and many friends and colleagues.
Visitation hours will be held on Monday, November 9, 2015 from 4 -7 PM at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road, Chatham. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 10 AM at Holy Redeemer Church, 57 Highland Ave., Chatham. Following the funeral mass there will be a social gathering at the Chatham Squire.
