Jim was born in Windsor, CT to the late Joseph P. and Ruth (Sargent) Rooney. He was a graduate of Windsor High School (’51) and the University of Connecticut (’55) with a degree in Industrial Administration. Jim was a proud US Army Infantry Officer and graduate of Basic Infantry Officer School in Fort Benning, GA. He rose to rank of Lieutenant in Korea and Japan (1955-1958).
Jim worked with Hamilton Standard Division of United Technologies Corporation (UTC) in the data processing department and after 30 years retired as Materials Manager of the Farmington Electronics Plant. Soon after his retirement, he moved to Chatham where and his wife Margaret have resided for the past 17 years.
Jim enjoyed his retirement working at Carmon Funeral Home in Windsor, Connecticut and Nickerson Funeral Home of the Cape. He had a grand love for maintaining his home and yard including his flower and vegetable garden. He was a parishioner of Holy Redeemer Church in Chatham, a member of the Chatham Anglers, Chatham retired Men’s Club, Pittsburgh Pirates Booster Club and he played in the Cape Cod Senior Softball League for 18 years. Jim had a passion for UCONN basketball and the Detroit Tigers.
Jim is predeceased by his brother David Sargent and sister Mary Cicero. In addition to his loving wife of 54 years, Jim is survived by his son Hugh W, Rooney and his wife Monica of Plaistow, NH and their children Blake, Brooke and Spencer. He is survived as well by his daughter Christine R. Rooney and her husband Russell Isch and their children Madisyn and Mackenzie.
Friends and family are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, June 18th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Rd., Chatham, MA 02633. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 19th at Holy Redeemer Church, 57 Highland Ave. Chatham, MA 02633. Burial with military honors will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
