Hoyt H. Harmon Jr.

ORLEANS - Hoyt H. Harmon of South Chatham, MA, died Thursday May 21, 2015, of natural causes. Born September 30, 1923 in Waterbury, CT, and son of (Colonel) Hoyt Henry Harmon, Sr. and Marian (Lambert) Harmon. He was a graduate of Vermont Academy, Hamilton College, and Albany Law School.

Hoyt enlisted in the U.S Army Air Corps 1942-43, and also served as an ambulance driver with the American Field Service in Italy 1944-1945. A lawyer by profession, he was admitted to the Bar of the State of New York in 1950 and practiced law in NYC for 11 years, followed by three years at Campbell Soup Company in Camden, NJ. In1964 he moved to the Law Department of Gulf Oil Corporation (now Chevron Corp.) in Philadelphia (and Houston), until retiring to Cape Cod in 1985. He then became involved with the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Chatham Council on Aging, and volunteered with the Cape Cod National Seashore. For a number of years he enjoyed playing with the Cape Cod Old Timers Softball League and was a member of Chequesset Golf Club in Wellfleet. His diligent volunteer work with the Chatham Eldredge Library earned him a staff position in the Library's Genealogy Department; during that time he was also a member and contributor to the New England Historic Genealogical Society in Boston.

Hoyt is survived by his ex-wife Judy, sons Bruce and David, and daughter Barbara. Rarely without an active social life, he will be greatly missed by his family and countless good friends.

Arrangements are being made for burial at the MA National Cemetery in Bourne. A small memorial reception is being planned for late June.
