He was the beloved husband of Betty J. (Frost) Pfeil for 63 years. Frank is also survived by his five children, Ronald F. Pfeil and his wife Patricia of Newton, NJ, Robert G. Pfeil and his wife Mary Pat of Great Meadow, NJ, Frank T. Pfeil, Jr., of Pompton Plains, NJ, Nancy E. Reinhardt and her husband Dennis of Pennington, NJ, and Kathleen L. Colligan and her husband William, of Myrtle Beach, SC. He was also the beloved grandfather of Allison L. Pfeil, Jennifer M. Reinhardt, Daniel J. Peterson and Melissa J. Reinhardt.
Born in East Orange, NJ, Frank lived in Pompton Plains, NJ for 30 years before retiring to South Chatham, MA. He served in the National Guard and then with the U.S. Army during World War II from 1940 to 1945, with the 82nd Airborne and then 101st Airborne. He participated in the invasions of Africa, Sicily, Italy and Southern France. Additionally, he participated in the Battle of the Bulge and was captured in Belgium by German forces December, 1944 and liberated in April, 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
After the war, Frank graduated from the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts, Newark, NJ. Following more than two decades of experience in graphic arts, Frank joined Thomas J. Lipton, Inc. of Englewood Cliffs, NJ as a graphics coordinator. He retired after 15 years with Lipton as Manager of Packaging Graphics Coordination. Following retirement, he and Betty moved to South Chatham where he turned his hobby of many years into a part time career as a watercolorist. He was a member of the Guild of Chatham Painters for 15 years.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, Highland Avenue, Chatham, at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 2, 2011 followed by burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in his memory to the VNA Hospice of Cape Cod, P.O.
