Thomas Raymond Spaulding — a lover of the outdoors, dogs, and the sounds of nature — passed away at UVA Medical Center, in Charlottesville, VA, on December 23rd, 2024, his family at his side. He was 74.
After a 17-year career at TruGreen, followed by 2 years at Holly Memorial Gardens, Thomas retired in January 2015, whereupon he dedicated his time to the outdoors: tending to the garden, napping to the birdsong, and riding in his Jeep, with the top down and his beloved Princess by his side.
Born in Fairfax, VA, Thomas was predeceased in death by his father, Raymond Spaulding, mother, Cecilia Kerins Spaulding, and brother, Dennis Spaulding.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Spaulding, daughters Jessica Peters, Aimee Sims (Dedrick), Lynne Patrick (Lee), sons Derrick Heffner (Heather), James Hastings (Lisa), Bobby Hastings, Danny Hastings, his brother Robert Spaulding (and wife Sue), dear friend Deborah Hatfield, thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at UVA Medical Center, 3rd Floor MICU, in Charlottesville, VA, for the amazing care they provided.
A celebration of Thomas’ life, for friends and family, will be held on Thursday, January 2nd from 5-7 pm at Teague Funeral Services, 2260 Ivy Rd, Charlottesville, VA 22903. The funeral service will be overseen by Pastors Leo Bracken and Dave Schafferman, and will be held on Friday, January 3rd at 10 am, with gravesite to follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, 3251 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
