Obituary of Janet Crawford
Janet Lynn Grinstead Crawford, born April 12, 1956, passed away comfortably with her husband by her side, on April 14, 2016. She had just celebrated her 60th birthday. Janet fought a brief, but courageous battle against brain cancer. Despite her diagnosis in early February of 2016, Janet remained positive, strong in her faith with our Lord Jesus Christ, and never once complained of her illness. Janet is survived by her husband of nearly 39 years, Paul Crawford, of Lake Monticello, Va. She is also survived by their daughter, Casey Crawford Sorensen, and her husband, Ryan, of Crozet, Va. Surviving family members include her mother, Virginia Grinstead, of Crozet, Va., sister Vicki Fragale, of Glen Allen, Va., brother Glenn Grinstead, and Teresa Anderson, of Crozet, Va., brother-in-law Curtis Crawford, and Sharon Johnson, of Crozet, Va., niece Sarah Lamb, and husband Jared, of McGaheysville, Va., nephews Matthew Grinstead, of Crozet, Va., and Conan and Adam Lamb, of McGaheysville, Va. Janet was preceded in death by her father, Virgil M. Grinstead, mother-in-law Ramona J. Chapman, and father-in-law Alvin C. Crawford, Sr. Janet graduated from Albemarle High School in 1974, and retired from the University of Virginia Registrar's Office (UREG) in October of 2015. She loved her family, co-workers and friends, and had worked 36 years for UVa. Janet loved her Virginia Cavaliers, and enjoyed watching many sporting events throughout the years. She and her husband loved traveling, having visited 48 states. They attended many events over the years enjoying concerts, shows, and many other forms of entertainment. She spent many days at the Outer Banks watching the ocean and waves, walking on the beach collecting shells, and taking in every relaxing moment. Even though they were no longer active members at Hillsboro Baptist Church, that remained their "home" church. Janet's faith and love of our Lord Jesus Christ never wavered during difficult times. Thanks go out to the many doctors, nurses, and caregivers during recent weeks. Special thanks to those involved with her care at Hospice of the Piedmont. A remembrance gathering will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, April 18, 2016 at Teague Funeral Home with prayers and remembrances at 5:30 and 6:30 pm. Many thanks to everyone for their love and prayers during this time, and their continued love and prayers as we move forward. May God bless each of you.
