Obituary of James "Big Boy" Shifflett
James MacAuthur Shifflett known affectionately as “Big Boy” or “Uncle Bibs” of Boonesville, parted his earthly journey on July 7, 2022 at his home. He was born July 11, 1942, in Charlottesville to the late Lucy Millie and John Thomas Shifflett Bibs was a gentle, energetic visionary father figure of our family, who even in his elderly age could not sit still. He was the kind of person that everyone knew. A huge hole will be left in the hearts of his family and friends. Bibs was a very hard worker and thoroughly enjoyed farming and especially splitting wood. He had a love for the simple things in life, country music especially Gretchen Wilson, taking rides on the dirt roads, and his all-time favorite fried chicken. He loved sharing so many stories from Boonesville, he was so knowledgeable about the history and the people of the area. Bibs spent his life in Boonesville farming, splitting wood, and cutting hay and he always had the kids with him. Over the past three generations, he spent most of his time with the immense group of kids that grew up spending every Sunday, summer breaks, holidays, and any other time spent coming to the "country". Bibs gave everyone nicknames. To this day those have still stuck around. Bibs was a very hard worker he was always willing to lend a hand, share vegetables from the garden, and bring you a load of wood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephews Chris Frazier and Shawn Forbes, his brother-in-law Eugene Walton, and sister-in-law Shirley Shifflett. Bibs is survived by his sisters Genevieve "Nanny B" White (James), Patsy Kelley (Barry), and his brother Daniel "Leroy" Shifflett. Nieces, Jeanie Walton (Tommy), Jackie Shifflett, Kimberly Walton, Jamie Frazier (Vince), Presley Frazier, Krystal Frazier (Travis), Mackenzie Dudley, Brooklynn Dudley, and Hayleigh Dudley. His nephews are Dennis Forbes (Monica), Doug Forbes (Karen), Tommy Forbes (Debbie), and Michael Lambert "Little Weasel". He is also survived by a host of great-nieces and great-nephews, a host of friends and neighbors, and his dear friends Kate, Sean, his lifelong friends J.C. and Gerald, and countless others from the community that knew and loved Bibs. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his medical team and his full-time caregivers. Dr. Bruce Campbell, his fantastic nurse Amy, and Jeanie and Tommy for their care, love, and support that has been given. Bibs loved you both dearly.
