Gene Howard Harvey

On Saturday, December 10, 2022, Gene Howard Harvey passed away at his home in Crozet. He was born on May 23, 1950 in Charlottesville, the son of Muriel Beatrice James and Virgil L. James, Sr. Gene was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother V. L. James, Jr. of Crozet. He was also predeceased by his in-laws Arthur and Neva Hedberg, his brother-in-law John Hedberg (Carolyn), and special granddaughter Cara Leigh Searcy. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Mary Hedberg Harvey; his sons Gregory Harvey (Tracie), and Allan Harvey; his grandchildren Kyle Harvey (Elizabeth), Dylan Harvey, Caitlin Harvey, and Aden Harvey. He is also survived by his brother Ralph Downer James and Pat of Amherst; sisters-in-law Mrs. V. L. James, Jr. of Crozet, and Linda Jenkins (Dick) of Ohio; devoted nephew and caregiver Christopher Hedberg, and nieces and nephews Kim, Michelle, Holly (Jason and Georgia), Clark Jenkins. and Lee (Anne, Bella and Haden). Survivors - special daughters Lisa Searcy (Willard), and children Courtney (Justin), Judson (Nicole), great granddaughter Raina, and great grandson Reid; Tonia McFatter and grandchildren Savanna and Kayla, great granddaughters Sendaya and Katalina; daughters April and Elvira. All of the other numerous friends thought of as family but not mentioned, and you know who you are. He graduated from Albemarle High School. Gene was owner of Sentry Electric Company, Inc. For many years he sponsored the VA Select Softball Team (all which were his softball family) and led them to many championships. The memorial service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022, 1:00 p.m., at Teague Funeral Service, 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, Pastor Lindsay Ellis officiating.
