Anne Jernigan Acker passed away peacefully May 4, 2020, surrounded by her family.
She was born January 8, 1939, in Dunn, North Carolina, to Alberta Wadsworth Jernigan and Haywood Houston Jernigan.
She is survived by daughters Katherine Kendrick, Deborah Thomas Starns (Doug), and Barbara Thomas; son-in-law Dennis Proffitt; grandsons Wade Minges (Donna Whitt) and Brian Thomas (Linda); granddaughters Alexandra Starns Wood (Trevor), Taylor Starns, Leah Starns Groat (Tim), Abigail Starns, Sarah Dickson, and Suzie Neuenschwander (Jeff); great-grandsons Jonah Wade Minges and Eli Zachary Minges, Jack Thomas Wood, Kade and Koby Neuenschwander, James and Luke Thomas; great-granddaughter Kate; and brother Charles Haywood Jernigan (Ellie).
She was predeceased by her husband Robert H. Acker, Jr.; brother William Houston Jernigan; and by her loving daughter Rebecca Thomas Dickson.
Anne had a lifelong love of horses, and she instilled this love and interest in all of her daughters. She was an avid gardener and particularly enjoyed growing roses.
She took up the vocation of realtor after raising her family and ran a successful realty company in Mint Hill, NC, for many years.
Later in life, Anne began decorating cakes as a hobby, enjoying bringing her beautiful creations to various family events and celebrations.
Special thanks to the dedicated and loving team of caregivers who have been by her side over the last two months, the nursing staff at Morningside Assisted Living, and to the team at Heartland Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at a future date.
