Zaydee Lopez-Ibanez

Zaydee was born in Matanzas, Cuba on January 11th, 1938. Soon after graduating college and working at her father’s textile mill, she married Antonio Lopez-Ibanez in 1959. Forced to flee Cuba’s oppressive political regime after the government nationalized the family business and assets, they came to the USA. Soon after, in 1961, they settled in Charlotte, NC where they resided for the duration of her life. Zaydee and Tony joined St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in 1965 and were active parishioners throughout their lifetime.

A tireless person, Zaydee was a devoted mother and grandmother, who always was focused on helping those in need. She loved nothing more than supporting her children and grandchildren’s interests and activities and did so with unrelenting enthusiasm. While Zaydee’s participation in an array of charitable causes reached across continents, helping the poor and underprivileged in her community and church was truly her passion.

Blessed with incredible energy to engage with others and an admirable work ethic, Zaydee will be remembered as someone who everyone adored, given her bright, positive outlook and zest for life, family, and friends. A dedicated wife and mother, who provided an example of how to live a fruitful life and marriage of 62 years with Antonio, she will be sorely missed by many.

She is survived by son, Tony and wife, Larissa; son, Enrique and wife. Lina; and grandchildren: Michael, Lindsey, Julianna, Antonio, and Maria Violeta. She is also survived by many loving family members.

A Prayer Service will be held at 6 pm on Thursday, November 16th, 2023 at the McEwen Funeral Home-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte. Visitation will follow until 8 pm.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, November 17th, 2023 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Rd., Charlotte. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
