Mrs. Wylene Harrison Hinkle, 88, of Charlotte, North Carolina passed from this life into the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday April 24th, 2011. Mrs. Hinkle was born December 23, 1922 in Lavonia, Georgia to the late Thomas Edwin Harrison and Ella Virginia Kelly Harrison. She moved to Charlotte at a very early age, attending public school, graduating from old Central High School in 1941.
Most of her adult working career (52 years) was with the Real Estate firm of Freeman and McClintock and Tate and Wells. She married George Fredrick Hinkle, Jr. (Ted) in 1943, and was happily married and a devoted wife until his death in 1992.
She is survived by her son George Fredrick Hinkle III (Jeff) of Cornelius, NC, and a son Charles Hampton Hinkle (Hamp) of Charlotte. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Charlie Hinkle, Josh Hinkle, and Ginny Hinkle, of Charlotte, which were the apple of her eye. Mrs. Hinkle’s devotion to her Church, friends, and UNC basketball was undeniably remarkable. But the true love of her life was her family, and especially her three precious grandchildren. Her sacrificial attitude and ‘others first’ mentality, along with and obstinate disdain for recognition or attention to herself will always be a lasting legacy.
Her kindness and attention to others was truly a gift and will never be forgotten. A memorial service for Mrs. Hinkle will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Saint Paul United Methodist Church with the Reverend Clyde Penry and Reverend A.J. Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 till 8:30 P.M. at Saint Paul United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to Saint Paul United Methodist Church- Barbara L. Carter Scholarship Fund, 2830 Dorchester Place, Charlotte, N.C. 28209.
