His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint-Hill Road. His funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 18 in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Johnny Lord officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
Born March 22, 1933 in Union County, NC, Bill was a son of the late William F. Hinson, Sr. and Cora Baker Hinson. He was the previous owner of W.H. Hobbs, Inc and a U.S. Navy veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Glenn Hinson, and a sister, Gladys Hinson.
Bill was a friend, husband, father, uncle, father-in-law and grandpa. He enjoyed his gardening, loved flowers and springtime, and was a great fisherman. He thought Pigeons were the prettiest birds on the planet, because he used to raise and show them many years ago. He was not a man of many words, but all who came about him knew he cared for and loved you in the actions he did for you. He will be truly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hinson; daughter and son-in-law, Robin Hinson Thomas and Tony Thomas; and grandsons, Travis Scott Turner and William Anthony “Billy” Thomas, all of Mint Hill. He is also survived by a brother, Robert Hinson of Charlotte; sisters, Bessie Taylor of Charlotte and Betty Jo Dick of Alexis. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, “Ninners,” whom he adored and kept him great company for the past nine years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carolina Raptor Center, P.O. Box 16443, Charlotte, NC 28297.
