William (Bill) Franklin Brown, 96, died peacefully at Atrium Main Hospital, Charlotte, NC on October 5, 2022. A visitation is planned for Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at 1pm at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. A graveside service at 2pm at Sharon Memorial Park will immediately follow the visitation.
Bill was born in Charlotte, NC on February 7, 1927. He was one of seven children (6 brothers and a sister) of the late Paul Jackson Brown and the late Frankie Byrum. Preceding Bill in death was his wife, Marilyn Sue Sailers as well as his 5 brothers - Paul, Robert, Calvin, Joe, Elbert and his sister, Nancy Ridenhour. Bill is survived by his son, William Franklin Brown, Jr. of Charlotte, NC and daughter, Lynda Sailers Brown of Matthews, NC.
Bill grew up on a working farm and as a young man became quite accomplished as a trainer of mules and horses for both work and pleasure riding. Bill graduated from high school at 16 and enrolled at North Carolina State College. He left NC State at age 17 to join the United States Navy and served in the South Pacific during WWII. Upon completion of his military service, Bill enrolled at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and earned a BA in Business. Bill spent the majority of his career at General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMAC) serving as a dealer relations manager/credit manager. Bill loved his family and friends. He built a beautiful home for his family in Charlotte, NC and became known in the neighborhood for having bountiful vegetable gardens which he shared with extended family, neighbors, friends and the food pantry. He was very proud of his lovely landscaped yard. During his younger years, Bill enjoyed golf and playing handball. Bill loved animals and cared for numerous family pets throughout his lifetime. He was a true Southern gentleman. Bill was deeply loved by many and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, CO.
