Redge, born to parents Millard & Estelle (Reasor) Ely was raised surrounded by extended family in beautiful Lee County, VA. Recently he held the title of being the last surviving male from the Dryden High School 1957 class.
The following year 1958, Redge married the love of his life, Reka Ann Akens. In March 1962, Redge and family moved from Big Stone Gap, VA to Charlotte, NC follo ing promotion to refrigeration mechanic with Pet Diary. Redge and Reka celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past July 19, 2023.
Redge started working at Pet Diary, Big Stone Gap plant under the guidance of two uncles. 46 years later he retired (new name Dean Foods) having been responsible for multiple locations throughout the South. He loved his job and the many friends he made there over the years and locations.
Redge is proceeded in death by his sister Rosemary Jetton of Hobbs, New Mexico and son-in-law Mikel Farr of Charlotte, NC.
Redge will be lovingly remembered by his wife Reka, daughter Jennifer Ely of Apex, NC, daughter Leisha Farr of Charlotte, NC, granddaughter Caitlin Collins of Fort Worth, Texas and sister Janice Collier of Englewood, Florida.
Redge will be cremated and due to COVID concerns wanted no funeral. His ashes will be scattered with Reka’s in the future.
