Virginia E. Bratton, age, 98, died on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Pavilion at Brightmore. She was born in Charlotte on June 22, 1919 to Lewis C. and Elizabeth Nichols Bratton. Brat was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Lewis C. Bratton, Jr.
At the age of 20, Brat graduated from Salem College with a triple major in Latin, English and Math. During World War II, she joined the war effort by working at Morris Field in Charlotte. She later went to work for the DuPont Corp., where she remained until her retirement.
In 1942, Brat joined Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church where she was an active member for many years, and sang in the church choir for 50 years. She was the oldest living member of the church at the time of her death.
Brat is survived by a host of devoted friends and by her beloved feline companion, Ladybug.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, Sept. 5th at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte.
