Vernon Earl Woosley

Vernon Earl Woosley, 80, of Richmond, Virginia passed away on September 13, 2022. He was born in Richmond, Virginia on November 19, 1941 to the late Jack Leftwich Woosley and the late Glennie Williams Woosley Conkling.

Earl graduated from Fork Union Military Academy in 1961 and attended Virginia Tech and Virginia Commonwealth University. He also served in the Virginia Air National Guard. Earl’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate his own company, Woosley Associates, where he served as a manufacturers’ representative for commercial roofing supplies during most of his professional life.

Earl enjoyed spending his free time in the great outdoors while hunting, canoeing, kayaking, white-water rafting, snow skiing and water skiing. He was an accomplished athlete and remained physically active all his life, but his proudest moment came when he participated in the Senior Olympics with his Richmond volleyball club team. Earl found great pleasure in taking road trips and driving cars, especially fast ones, and spent much of his retirement years delivering cars for some of the local dealerships.

Later in life, Earl frequently gathered for fellowship with his friends at the nearby Hardees and fondly referred to these sessions as his lodge hall meetings. Earl was a long-time member and a former deacon of Bon Air Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Edwin E. Conkling; and sister-in-law, Kim Woosley. He is survived by his former wife of 40 years, Pat Snead Woosley; two brothers, Robert Woosley (Karen) and Mark Woosley of Richmond; daughter, Blair Woosley Harris (Craig), of Charlotte, North Carolina; and granddaughters, JaneConway Harris and Katherine Harris.

A memorial service will be held at Bon Air Baptist Church, Buford Road Campus, on Saturday, October 1st at 11 a.m. A private graveside service will be held at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Bon Air Baptist Church Endowment or to the American Lung Association where Earl was an active volunteer, speaker, and leader in their smoking cessation program for many years.
