Verlon “Bob” Watson, 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, March 03, 2012. Born in Adrian, GA on September 13, 1922, he was a son of the late Binion Watson and Era Braswell Watson. As a youth, Mr. Watson played semi-pro baseball and had attended the University of Georgia. He served in the Pacific as a Seaman First Class in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. On October 7, 1946, Mr. Watson married the love of his life, Peggy Thornton Watson.
He retired from the Carnation Company after thirty years of service where he made a name for himself in sales.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00PM, Tuesday, March 6th at Wilson Funeral Service with Rev. Albert Leath officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:00PM prior to the funeral hour. Serving as pallbearers will be Trip Watson, Brett Watson, Kyle Watson, Ryan Ostrom, Chip Smith and Danny Kallal.
Mr. Watson is survived by his wife of 65 years, Peggy T. Watson; two sons, V. S. Watson, Jr. and wife Allison; Edward Watson and wife Janet; a daughter, Sheila W. Langford and husband Criss and daughter-in-law, Ann Watson; two sisters, Betty Jean Whitley, of Sarasota, FL, Georgia Faye Elrod, of Powder Springs, GA. and his grandchildren, V.S. Watson, III, Marie Watson, Samantha Kallal, Brett Watson, Kyle Watson, Jenna Mobley, Ashley Ostrom, Allison Smith and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Watson was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Watson.
