Born February 17, 1932 in Newton, NC, he was the youngest son of the late W.B. Lynch, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Steele. He attended Startown School which was elementary through high school in those years. Then he served in the Korean War in the United States Army for two years and was in the reserves until 1960.
Tony married Betty Jean Bell on June 23, 1956. Afterward, they moved to Charlotte, NC to raise a family. He was a barber from 1955 to 1994, eventually owning the Colonial Barber Shop on Providence Road in Charlotte. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 45 years, Betty Jean Bell; two brothers, William Berger, Jr and Thomas; three sisters, Margaret, Mildred, and Dorothy; and a grandson, Samuel Helms.
He is survived by a daughter, Janice Helms of Clover, SC; three sons, Garry and Kent of Charlotte, NC and David of Raleigh, NC; a granddaughter, Karen (Jack) Callihan; and great-grandson, Trevor Callihan.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 17, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Woodlawn Baptist Church, 4622 Nations Crossing Rd., Charlotte, NC 28217.
Funeral service will be held Friday, December 17, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Woodlawn Baptist Church, 4622 Nations Crossing Rd., Charlotte, NC 28217.
Graveside service will occur Friday, December 17, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Rd., Charlotte, NC 28212.
