Charlotte - Shelton Gorelick, 84, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on June 14, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Carol Nacdimen Gorelick. He was predeceased by his parents, Israel and Annie Gorelick. He is also survived by his son, Scott Gorelick and his wife, Dana, and their children, Zachary, Elyssa and Madeline; son, Jeffrey Gorelick and his wife, Bari, and their children, Joshua, Gabriel and Jonah; daughter, P’ninah Miriam Gimbel and her husband, Yisrael Ori Gimbel; step-daughter, Wendy Weiner and her partner, Delia Champion; step-son, David Weiner and his wife, Shawn Weiner, and children, Rachel, Aaron and Sara. He is also survived by his brother, William Gorelick and his wife, Patricia; as well as a large extended family.
Shelton was born on November 3, 1929, in Jamaica, Long Island, NY, and has lived in Charlotte since he was a toddler. He graduated from Charlotte Central High School, and attended UNC-Chapel Hill. He was also a proud veteran of the Korean War.
Shelton and his father founded CMC Finance Group and Capital Premium Plan in Charlotte, and were later joined in the business by Shelton’s brother, William. Shelton married Renee Molko, the mother of his three children, in 1957. The family business grew, went public, and the brothers continued to operate the business, even after it was acquired multiple times.
Anyone who knew Shelton knew that he was a passionate and astute businessman. Following his official retirement, Shelton kept “going to work.” He maintained an office, and he studied and invested in securities, real estate and other business ventures, until just a few weeks ago.
Shelton’s generous heart led him to pursue many meaningful philanthropic endeavors. Shelton served as a director or member of various business, civic and charitable organizations, including Carolinas Healthcare System, Carolinas Healthcare Foundation, First Railroad & Banking Company, First Union, Mint Museum of Craft and Design, Penland School of Crafts, Charlotte Country Day School, Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte, Foundation of Shalom Park, Blumenthal Jewish Home, and many others. He was a lifetime member and supporter of Temple Israel.
Above all, Shelton was proud of and dedicated to his large family and friends. He had a huge heart and gave his wisdom, advice, support and love to countless people. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
