Sara Alice Butler Mullis

Sara was a loving wife, incredibly caring mother and adoring grandmother. She married her high school sweetheart, Donnie, on June 26, 1960. Sara attended East Mecklenburg High School (Class of 1958) and Queens College (Class of 1962). She taught elementary school in Charlotte and Raleigh for many years, before leaving the profession to devote her full attention to her growing family.

Sara was an astute reader, life-long learner, and an eternal optimist. She loved the beach, enjoyed tending to her flowers, and took great pleasure in watching and feeding the birds around her home. Hummingbirds were her favorite. Sara was a member of Arlington Baptist Church in Mint Hill, participating in the Daughters of Ruth Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her husband, Donnie Clifton Mullis, her children; Clifton Mullis (Monica) and Christopher Mullis (Rita), Grandchildren; Ryan, Leah, Seven and Benjamin, Sisters; Jackie A. Caudle of Raleigh, Jean B. Jones of Cookeville, TN and Josephine B. Earp of Monroe as well as many nephews and nieces.

She was predeceased by her parents, Joe Henry and Florence Ethel Butler.

Memorials may be sent to Arlington Baptist Church and/or St. Jude's Children’s Research Hospital.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 1:00 to 2:00pm at Arlington Baptist Church 9801 Arlington Church Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227. Graveside services will follow in the church cemetery at 2:00pm.
