She was born in Charlotte on November 2, 1932. In her late teens, she helped build her mother and father's house on Sardis Road. After high school, she entered nursing school but dropped out because she had met her true soul mate and could not be married and be in nursing school. She loved to travel, read books, watch old Westerns on TV and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 1/2 years, James on June 13, 2013; parents Leslie A. and Bessie M. Belk; sister and best friend Johnnie B. Thompson in 2005, and her sister Evelyn Belk.
She is survived by her daughters Evelyn G. Bailey and husband Nelson, Lynn G. Ollis and husband Andy; granddaughter Jennifer B. Everhart and husband Matthew; grandson Scott H. Bailey and wife Whitney; five great grandsons; four very special sister-in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews.
