Recall first time meeting Roy, 1978 second week new at Duke Power, took a stroll checking out 8th floor, came up on some guy who's hunched over desk, pentel in hand, hard at work on one of the most beautiful drawings I'd ever seen, had to remark 'man, that drawing is a work of art!' Roy looked up with that wide smile of his 'thanked me' then went back to 'carefully' shading in a pipe flange, a gifted Draftsman. Ended up working for Roy, a smart, fair minded, common sense Supervisor with a quick wit. Even more so, Roy was just a great 'human being'  to be around, glad I knew him.

I had the pleasure and privilege to work with Roy for many years at Catawba. I had the upmost respect for Roy Wallace. He had very strong work ethics. He always strived for perfection in his work and expected it of others as well. If Roy told you his team would complete a work task on a given date, he would give it his all to ensure the date was met. Roy was more than a coworker he was a good friend to me and many others at Duke Energy. He was a standup guy and will be missed by all who knew him. Roy loved his family very much and spoke of them often. My condolences to his wife and family. R I P my good friend Roy.


Mr. Roy was my friend 40+ years! He will be deeply missed at Catawba!!!   He always said - you just think I’m tough , you should meet my wife then he would chuckle and do his little grin.  Roy loved his wife dearly and his entire family.  He was always putting  his family & co-workers. first! He was one of a kind!  Fly high Mr. Roy ☺️You have earned your wings!! Roy was one in a million. He was my supervisor for more than 30 years.  The best supervisor anyone could have had.  He cared about his employees and considered many of us as “family “. Roy was always up for a challenge.  Never intimidated by anyone or anything.  He held a high standard for himself and his employees. While working for him in Catawba Major Projects, we gave him the nickname “The Bear”.  But those that knew him could see behind his gruff exterior that there was a Teddy Bear with a heart of gold. Roy was my supervisor but also my friend.  The world is a lesser place since he’s gone.  My prayers are with Betty and the family.

I met and worked with Roy more that 30 years ago at Catawba Nuclear Station. Roy sat ride outside my work location and we always chatted about the old times and how things have changed. Roy was always smiling and always made me feel like he cared  sincerely.  To the family,  my condolences are with you. Roy will be truly be missed by myself and the Catawba team.

Roy was my uncle and I was deeply saddened and shocked to hear of his sudden passing. My last memory of him was us looking through old photos together at my parent's house in 2018. He had many great stories to share. His mother, my grandmother, loved him dearly. I know that they are together now <3 sending my condolences to Aunt Betty, cousin Denise, and all of his stepchildren and grandchildren.

Met Roy in 1974, first in Design  Engineering from our time in the Trade Center, the Electric Center, when we were shipped to Catawba Nuclear Station as Modification Engineering in the Aquatic Center and then inside the fence to the NUB. Never knew him not to have a smile on his face.  Always a team player, he will be missed greatly.. RIP Roy.

I have known Roy since I was 15 years old.  We grew up together, married young, and had a daughter, Denise.  Sadly, as in many cases, marrying so young did not give us the maturity we needed and we divorced after 15 years.  That said, Roy has always held a special place in my heart and hearing this news has saddened me tremendously.  He was a good man, kind and thoughtful.  He will be missed but knowing he is in a better place with Mom and Dad Wallace and without pain lifts my sadness a little bit.  Roy never met a stranger and was well respected and loved by many.

Roy was one of my supervisors at Duke Power Company. He was a fair, honest & hardworking man. Blessings and prayers to his family and friends. 🙏🕊

I have know Roy for many years and have worked with him for the last several years.  I always admired his direct, no nonsense, and often comical approach to situations, especially in meetings.  He was a great guy and will be surly be missed.

I had the privilege of knowing Roy from the days in the Charlotte office through many years at Catawba.  We worked in the same area and spent time solving world problems.  He will be missed.  My thoughts and prayers are with the family. 

I also worked for and with Roy and his team for many years.  He was one of the best supervisors I ever worked for.  He was also a friend. He always helped where he could and took pride in helping others. 
Hopefully his memory will live on for many years in those whose lives he touched in some small way over the years.   
Farewell Roy.   

I am so sad that Roy has passed away! Although he is gone physically from us, the memory of him and his sense of humor and honest approach to things is forever engraved in my memory. Quite bluntly, I miss him. I worked with him and for him on several projects and he was always prepared and supportive.  Excellent worker, excellent friend!

Remembering Roy Wallace:

I worked with Roy Wallace in the Design Engineering Department from 1974 until the deployment of the Design Engineering Department to the Nuclear stations in 1992.

In the early days, Duke Power was one of the few Power Companies that utilized their own Construction, Engineering and Design employees to design, construct, build and maintain their power plants.  

Roy Wallace was hired to manage the team of newly hired mechanical drafting designers.
Duke hired drafting students from local community colleges and provided an extensive Duke specific drafting training program.  This consisted of a three-month grueling training/orientation boot camp type program to ensure drafting/design was completed the “Duke” way.  If you survived the Drafting Boot Camp training and were a Mechanical Designer you were then assigned to the Roy Wallace drafting team.  

Roy was firm but fair.  He demanded high performance and perfection by his team.  His strong work ethic and high standards developed a drafting team that was recognized by many local Engineering/Architect firms as the best drafting/design employees and set the industry standards.  Roy’s employees were sought after by companies like; Day Engineering, Fluor Daniel, City of Charlotte and other utilities.  Roy was a mentor and a friend to many of the designers and engineering employees.  

Roy will be missed but his memory and his commitment to perfection will live on with each of us.  We are better because of him

I am forever grateful Mr Wallace offered me the opportunity of a lifetime. Roy believed in a strong work ethic he was proud, brutally honest, acted tough but a “heart of gold”. Willing to make sacrifices for family, friends and coworkers. He will be forever missed. 

I worked with Roy at Catawba and also when we were downtown in the Electric Center. He was a fine man and a great friend. He will be missed by all of us. I will keep Roy's friends and family in my prayers. I am so sorry for your loss.

Everyone loved Roy Wallace! He was a funny, witty guy. He could make you laugh in a minute. He was funny when he wasn’t even trying. He had his serious side too. He loved his family very much! He will truly be missed.

Roy was a good man, great co-worker and friend. Best dry sense of humor ever! I really enjoyed talking with him. He loved his family. Roy will be missed


In my short time at Catawba I got the pleasure of feeding Roy every day. He got the same exact thing for breakfast every day. Scrambled eggs, regular grits and a biscuit and gravy. He would be so happy when we would already have his box made when he would walk in the door. He had that little side smile. He would chuckle and say thank you. He will be missed by many. Rest In Peace, Roy. 

Roy was first in line every morning to get into the CNS plant when they wouldn't let's us in until 6:30am. Oh the conversations we would have about everything.  Riding the bus to the upper parking lot together talking about how things should be done. I will miss those conversations dearly. We have worked together 42yrs. He was a true friend. Rest in peace Roy.
