Roger is survived by his wife of 62 years, Roberta Wilson Hart; his daughters, Ginger Taylor, husband Gregg, and Jane Brendle, husband Ron; granddaughters, Sarah and Sally Taylor, and Chelsea Brendle; sisters, Sandy Austin and Sarah Kneer; brother, Dean Hart; and many cherished nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents, John Ballard Hart and Oletta Hart, and sister, Susan “Susie” Dean.
Roger was stationed in Germany while serving in the US Army. He then earned a degree in Agricultural Engineering form NC State University, was a service representative for General Motors Truck and Coach Division, Volkswagen, and International Harvester, and he served on the faculties of Stanly Community College and Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute. He owned and operated his own businesses, Charlotte Auto Clinic, The Bluegrass Corner, and Hart String Music Shop.
Roger made his home in Charlotte, and later in Mint Hill, NC. He was among the region’s foremost luthiers of Bluegrass instruments, his specialties being mandolin and guitar. He leaves with us dozens of his mandolins, guitars, dulcimers, and violins. He was expert in his knowledge and performance of traditional Bluegrass. He spent hours every day practicing and enjoying all types of music.
He was an avid gardener, woodworker, writer, and was known for his love of all animals, especially dogs. Roger was never at a loss for a great story or song to share.

A memorial service will be held at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel on Wednesday, September 2 at 3:00, visitation at 2:00.
