Dick was a member of Lake Norman Lutheran Church. He was a retired chemical engineer who received his undergraduate engineering degree from the University of Minnesota and his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago. Prior to becoming a memory care resident, Dick enjoyed building computers, tinkering with electronics, and fixing things around the house. Most recently, he was the proud checkers champion at Terra Bella. He was an incredible PaPa for his 5 grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by his parents George “Chic” and Clara Poppler, brother Kenny, sister Barbara, and his beloved wife of 49 years, Rose Marie.
Mr. Poppler is survived by his daughter Sonja and husband Tim Rock of Charlotte; son Barrett and wife Jennifer Poppler of Harrisburg; grandchildren Amanda, Kennedy, Matthew, Griffin, and Campbell; his “Minnesota” cousins, and his nieces and nephews.
Mr. Poppler’s family would like to thank the Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center Surgical Trauma ICU team and the Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster team for the outstanding care and compassion they provided him after his accident.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday August 2, 2022 at Lake Norman Lutheran Church in Denver, NC. A reception will follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region at https://www.hpccr.org/giving.
