Becky was born in Charlottesville, Va, to Laconla “Toby” and Christine Hance. Becky was the oldest of three children. The family moved to Eden NC where Becky was in the 1968 Morehead High School graduating class. She went on to attend Meredith College and graduated with degrees in Mathematics and Music. Becky received a Masters from UNCC where she taught Mathematics for several years. Becky was the President for RH Price, Inc. and helped to establish RH Price as a leading pipe company in the Charlotte area. Becky enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and helping others. She was an accomplished pianist and bridge-player.
In retirement, Becky volunteered her time and resources to help with Second Harvest of Metrolina and other programs to feed the hungry. She established a scholarship at Rockingham Community College in honor of her father to assist students looking for a second chance in life. She also privately provided scholarship money for students she met who needed a helping hand. She traveled around the world which was a testament to her independent spirit. She also enjoyed holidays and spending time with loved ones. Later in life, despite some physical limitations, Becky was able to travel to western National Parks with her dear friends Shelley and David Lassiter. She also enjoyed a recent trip to NYC with her friend and caregiver Sheena.
Becky is preceded in death by her parents and son James Price (Jay). She leaves behind her much-loved son Stephen Price and wife Miah of Charlotte, her sister Martha Fields of Madison NC and brother John Hance (Lowanna) from Ridgeway VA along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was the niece of Pat and Betty Hance of Charlotte both of whom she loved dearly. Becky will be remembered by her family as a loving mother, sister and niece. Her friends and family will treasure memories of her kindness, generosity, and perseverance through life’s hardships.
Funeral services with be held on Friday January 11, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Sardis Presbyterian Church 6100 Sardis Rd, Charlotte, NC. The family will greet friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Harvest of Metrolina or Rockingham Community College Foundation Fund.
