Randy James Griffin, age 65, died Friday, February 21, 2014 at his residence. Born in Gastonia on June 8, 1948, he was a son of the late James Lewis Griffin and Mary Kate Miller Griffin. Mr. Griffin was a graduate of East Mecklenburg High School, Class of 1966 and served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1971 in the 101st Airbourne where he earned a Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal. Mr. Griffin was co-owner of Carolina Foundry, A & A Foundry and started Extra Inning Baseball Academy. He touched many lives through youth baseball. In his spare time, Mr. Griffin enjoyed spending time at his lake house and beach house with family, friends and especially his grandchildren.
A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Griffin’s life will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, February 24th at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Ron Allen officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at the funeral home prior to the funeral hour.
Mr. Griffin is survived by his wife of forty six years, Gail Wallace Griffin; two sons, Wes Griffin and wife Christian, of Huntersville, Chad Griffin and wife Misty, of Mint Hill; a brother, Richard Griffin and wife Kathy, of Charlotte; his mother-in-law, Univee E. Wallace, of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Madison Griffin, Kennedy Griffin, Neil Griffin, Alaina Griffin and his two dogs, Scooter and Cody.
