Mrs. Steagall was a graduate of Ward-Belmont Preparatory School and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Vanderbilt University. She taught history, English and ballet in Charlotte and Charleston, S.C. Pris was also active in real estate for several years in Charlotte. She engaged in many civic pursuits, having served as vice-president for The Charity League, regent of the Mecklenburg Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, president of the Naval Medical Auxiliary, and served on the board at the Charlotte Medical Auxiliary for 10 years. She served as treasurer for the Parkinson Association of Mecklenburg County and was a member of the Robert Burns Society, Magna Charta Dames of Royal Descent and the Junior League. As a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, she taught Sunday school and served on the Altar Guild as a Eucharistic Minister.
Pris was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother with a zest for life. Her strong Christian faith guided her throughout life. Her passions included world travel, the arts, cooking, following her favorite sports teams, the Republican Party, and most importantly, making memories with her family and friends. Later in life, her vivacious nature led her to start a lively travel business, “The Gad-Abouts!”, along with her friend, the late Grace Cook.
Mrs. Steagall was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Robert Worth Steagall, Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Sayle Steagall Tucker and Sally Steagall Barker, and was blessed with two granddaughters, Skye Sayle Tucker and Haley McRae Barker, whom she adored. “Gran” was the epitome of a Steel Magnolia and a wonderful role model; she never told a lie, nor did she ever end a sentence with a preposition!
The girls would like to express their gratitude and love to Roberta Aiken for always being there for the family throughout the years.
