Pete was born on January 7,1946 and was the only child of the late Reverend Paul Franklin Bliss and Marjorie Briggs Bliss of Narraganset Rhode Island.
Pete attended Ohio State University for two years before enlisting in the US Army to serve as a Journalist/News Correspondent for the Defense Department in Vietnam. Upon returning home he met and married Susan Stoy his first wife and had twin sons, Matthew and Patrick. He returned to school and graduated from the University of Rhode Island where he received his Bachelor's' Degree in Journalism and Business.
Pete’s career began in the Advertising field where he worked alongside his father in nonprofit fundraising for many community organizations, churches and the Boy Scouts of America. Never hesitating to try something new he embraced the challenge of building a commercial fishing boat where he captained his own lobster fishing business. His love for golf led him later to open and run a sports store which specialized in golf and soccer. Pete’s golf game awarded him several opportunities to play amateur golf on the PGA tour where he became a lifetime member. He volunteered as a golf coach for Narraganset High school while his boys were students, and as a member of the Rotary Club in Narraganset, Rhode Island. His volunteer service within the community led to him being elected as an Outstanding Narraganset Citizen Volunteer where he was granted a lifetime membership to the Order of the Knights of the Rockingham Arch.
After relocating to Charlotte, NC, Pete found his true passion in the remodeling and construction business as owner of PFB Associates until he retired. He met and married his surviving wife Deborah Emmans Bliss who has one son, Ryan Emmans during this time and went on to enjoy a life full of love, laughter, travel and adventure. He was passionate about his regular rounds on the golf course, his weekly poker games and spending time with his wife, family and friends,
Pete was an outgoing man with a strong personality with a gift for charming and engaging people with his candor, wit and often bewildering sense of humor. Those who knew, loved and called him a friend saw him as a big man with a generous tender heart.
Peter is survived by his devoted wife Deborah (Emmans) Bliss, sons Matthew (Jennifer) Bliss, Patrick (Melissa), stepson Ryan Emmans, and his beloved grandchildren Ayden, Ian (Maya) Annika and Jordan Bliss. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends who will hold his memory in their hearts.
Services will be held on January 18, 2024 at McEwen Funeral Service Mint Hill, NC 28227 beginning at 11:00 am. Pete will be laid to rest in a private family service at the Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.
