Mrs. Ward, age 92 of Stallings passed away Friday February 7, 2014 at her residence. She was born March 1, 1921 in Bladen County, NC the third child of Fannie Jane Honeycutt and Daniel Alfred Cashwell, in addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, J. D. Ward in 2006, a brother D. A. Cashwell and sister Druise Coleman. Mrs. Ward earned her B. S. Degree at A.S.T.C. now ASU, she taught primary grades for 34 years in Rowan County and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Mrs. Ward was deeply devoted to her students and always had a great love for children. She did graduate work at Queens College and UNC. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and as long as she could she also attended Sunday School at Cornerstone. Mrs. Ward is survived by her two daughters, Donna Jan Ward and Patti Ann Ward of Stallings and a brother Hudson Cashwell and wife Marilyn of Hope Mills, NC. We would especially like to thank Rita Bass, who was Peggy’s caregiver and friend for many years. We also would like to thank Vance Geriatric Care and Novant Hospice and Palliative Care with special thanks Raina Ward, Heather Stavarkas, Lynde Garmon, Michael Flynn and Amy Collard. The family will receive friends starting at 12:00 P.M. Monday February 10, 2014 at McEwen Funeral Service Charlotte Chapel 5716 Monroe Road Charlotte, NC 28212 with a service in the funeral home chapel to follow at 1:00 P.M .conducted by Reverend Jerry Woolery and Reverend Glenn Gunter, Internment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
