Born in Roxboro and raised in Durham NC, she was the wife of the late Edward Francis Stemple, and the daughter of the late John Henderson and Beulah Day Swanson.
After marrying her husband, they raised their family in West Conshohocken, PA until 1968 then relocated to Charlotte NC. As a wife and mother, she was active in the Charlotte community as a member of the Altar Guild at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church and Charlotte Youth Athletic Club. Upon completion of seventeen years of service at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse, Peggy retired from the Clerk of Courts.
Peggy is survived by her son James Edward Stemple and wife Kim of Trinity NC; daughter Janet Stemple Smith of Cary, NC; daughter Julie Stemple Starnes and husband Mike of Mint Hill, NC and son Joel Stemple and wife Cecelia of Kernersville, NC.
In addition, she is survived by nine grandchildren, Matthew Stemple and wife Stephanie; Ryan Smith and wife Claire; Andrew Starnes and wife Candace; Allison Ranghel and husband Carlos; Patrick Stemple; Cody Starnes and wife Brittany; Logan Stemple and wife Celeste; Brooks Stemple and Ava Stemple. She is survived by twelve great grandchildren: brothers Jack Swanson and wife Hazel of Durham; Wallace Swanson of Alabama; and sister Bonnie Swanson of Durham.
In addition to her husband and parents Peggy was preceded in death by her son-in-law Scott Smith of Cary, NC; brothers Warren Swanson and Bill Swanson; and sisters Helen Copeland and Janie Chandler; and close companion Roland DuPont.
Visitation and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday August 12, 2023 . Visitation begins at 11am. Mass begins at noon at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church located at 4207 Shamrock Drive in Charlotte, NC. Burial immediately following at Sharon Memorial Park located at 5716 Monroe Road in Charlotte.
