Peggy Helms Shoemaker

Peggy Helms Privatte (Shoemaker) of Matthews, North Carolina passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday, October 14, 2024 at Cadence Senior Living in Mint Hill, North Carolina following a period of declining health.

Peggy was born December 10, 1932 in Mint Hill, North Carolina to the late Jesse T. Helms and Minnie McCoy Helms. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, E.A. Privatte "Pete"; siblings, J.T. Helms, Jr., James Helms, and Ginny Hovis.

She was a lifelong resident of Matthews/Mint Hill and was a graduate of Baine High School. She worked for Napa Genuine Parts for over 35 years. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Mint Hill and was active in Woodmen of the World. She enjoyed flowers and working in the yard. Peggy enjoyed doing for others and serving others. She especially loved visiting the sick and elderly in the community and making their day brighter with her beautiful smile and caring words.

Those left to cherish her memory include, her only son Darrell Privatte (Jan) of Greer, South Carolina; grandchildren, Brent Privatte (Samantha) of Duncan, South Carolina, and Annie Privatte Coley (Jerren) of Greenville, South Carolina; and great- grandchildren, Brody Fowler, Caroline Privatte, Nolan Privatte, Joe Coley, and Cori Coley.

Peggy is also survived by her sisters, Lois Belk, Kallie Hatchell, and Phyllis Parker and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Cadence Senior Living and Via Health Partners for their loving and dedicated care during Peggy's illness and a special thank you to Peggy's dear friend and caregiver, Cindy Lewis.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 18, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at McEwen Funeral Service- Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Road Mint Hill, North Carolina 28227, with a service to follow. Peggy will be laid to rest at Sharon Memorial Park immediately following the service, 5716 Monroe Road Charlotte, North Carolina 28212.
