Pauline Blankenship

Pauline died 3 days before her 98th birthday of natural causes. She said she had wanted to make it to 105 and she fought hard to do that but God must have wanted an early Christmas present. She was born in Lionilli, KY and was preceded in death by her parents Willis Burke and Zella Ellison and her Sisters: Arminda, Laura, Loretta, Melissa and her brothers: Archie, Billy Joe, Lloyd, Rufus and Simon.

She attended Dorton High School in Dorton, KY and went to Bowling Green College. She had several jobs in her twenties including teaching elementary kids, and secretarial positions for companies like James J. Harris Insurance here in Charlotte.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Charles M. Blankenship whom she met at a high school basketball game in KY and it must have been love at first sight because when Charles was offered a job in Florida they married just 4 months after meeting. He didn’t want to leave her behind and she didn’t want to be left behind. They celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary just this past June. So it seems they got it right!

Once Charles went into business for himself...Pauline became the permanent bookkeeper for Blankenship Electric Co., Inc. and Light Fixture Outlet. and worked along side Charles into her 80's. Pauline was a life long member and volunteer at Aldersgate United Methodist Church and served as Treasurer for a number of years for the United Methodist Women’s Church Group.

She was a quilter (like her mother), a cross-stitcher and an avid reader who loved to play Scrabble. About the time she turned 50 ... she planted and tended a very large vegetable garden for a number of years.

Last but not least she was a Wonderful Mother and Homemaker and is survived by her two loving daughters: Terry Williams of Waxhaw, NC and Connie Blankenship of Los Angeles, CA who feel blessed to have had her in their lives so long. Donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Salvation Army in her name would be very thoughtful and appreciated. Private Burial at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC.
