Paula-Marie Schwartz passed away on January 3, 2022, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. She was born to Luigi and Margarita Catapano on March 18, 1948 in Brooklyn, New York. Paula grew up on Long Island and loved living by the water.
Paula graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 1965. She married the love of her life, Marty Schwartz, on October 12, 1968. She joined Marty in Killeen, Texas at Fort Hood from 1968 to 1970 where Marty served in the Army with the 518th Military Police. Paula went back to school later in life and obtained a degree from Central Piedmont Community College. She worked in IT for many years but her favorite role was project manager for the family.
Paula was proudly Neapolitan and made it a priority to keep many traditions alive, like cooking for the family every Sunday. Paula loved hosting and sharing, even adding an extension on their house so the dining room could fit everyone. She loved spending time with the 518th MPs, seeing all of them at reunions in Ocean Isle Beach at the Winds Hotel and Resort. She was a caring wife, mother, friend, and, her favorite role, Nana.
Paula is survived by her husband of 53 years, Marty, her three children Michael Schwartz, Katie Anderson, and Chrissy Melvin and their spouses Trang Schwartz, Scott Anderson, and Darrell Melvin, and her grandchildren, Nathan and Madison Schwartz and Reese, Brielle, and Aubrey Melvin, Brittany and Forrest Anderson.
Visitation is scheduled for January 6th and 7th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the McEwen Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to Holy Angels (Belmont, NC) or The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center - Division of Gynecologic Cancer Research.
