Pat was born in Fayetteville, NC but she grew up in the Plaza Midwood area of Charlotte after age 4. She graduated from Charlotte Technical High School in 1950, and later graduated from Kings Business College.
On June 30, 1951 she married George Earl Hoffman, with whom she enjoyed over 50 wonderful years. Together they welcomed four children, Rebecca “Becky” Hoffman, Dale Hoffman, Garry Hoffman and Jennie Hoffman. Together they created a loving home for their children and grandchildren before Earl preceded her in death in 2004.
A devout Lutheran, Pat attended Holy Trinity Lutheran in her early years and in 1960 she started attending St. Thomas Lutheran Church where she remained a member for over 60 years. She also served as Church Secretary at St. Thomas for 7 years in the 1990’s. Pat was a dedicated congregant, helping with bulletins, altar guild, singing in the choir and serving on various committees over the years.
In 1971 Pat simultaneously pursued two careers, the first as a part of the Accounting Dept., Graphics Group and Telephone Pioneers for Bell South, where she later retired in 1990.
Pat’s second career was that of a loyal Avon representative - a passion that would serve her until present day, as she sold Skin So Soft even in her final days.
Pat was a loving and compassionate soul who greeted all with a smile and a hello. She was humble and set a great example on how to live a Christian life. She loved her garden and yard which is full of many beautiful plants and trees. She was always working in the garden or greenhouse which was lovingly built for her by her husband Earl, who also shared a green thumb. She also was an avid family historian and photographer, creating photo albums chronicling the family’s past and present.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, G.E. Hoffman; daughter, Jennie Hoffman; her younger brother, Richard Grier Rhyne; her parents, Grier and Ada Rhyne; and her grandson, Andrew Hoffman.
Pat’s beautiful life will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family: her children, Rebecca Terry, Dale Hoffman (Margaret), and Garry Hoffman (Cathy); granddaughters, Melissa Hammill (Drew), Erin Terry (Brent) and Stacie Wall (Jared); her 5 great grandchildren; her sister, Barbara Jacobs; niece, Alison Jacobs and her children; her step-grandson, Josh Chastain; and her former son-in-law, Steve Terry.
The family of Pat Hoffman wishes to thank our friends most sincerely for your expressions of kindness and sympathy. In her final days Pat greatly appreciated all of the calls and visits from her large network of friends and church family.
In lieu of flowers, it was Pat’s wish that any memorial donations be made to St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Charlotte.
