Pat was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and it was in high school that she met the love of her life, Robert W. Haffner. Pat and Bob married on September 23, 1961, and they remained at each other’s side throughout all her days. It was her husband, along with the tender care of a medical team, who tended to Pat’s needs as she fought the ailments that eventually overcame her body. Her spirit and her love remain strong and are forever with her family and friends.
Pat is survived by her husband Bob. They have two children, Sherry Fox of Croton, OH, and Richard Haffner (husband John Quillin) of Charlotte, NC. Sherry’s children Amanda Fox of Charlotte, NC, Kyle Fox (fiancé Kelli King) of Grove City, OH, and Parker Fox of Croton, OH. Pat’s greatest wish was to be a mommy and to raise good people; the same for when she became a grandparent. Her favorite TV program of all time was “The Waltons”. Anytime the show was on, it has high holy hour at the house and many lessons were taught with this show as an example. Sherry is a nurse who is always pursuing the next degree; Richard is a sign language interpreter; and the grandchildren – Amanda is a sergeant in the 211th Military Police Company NC National Guard Army and is currently serving the US in Afghanistan; Kyle is a State Trooper with the Ohio Highway Patrol; and, Parker is finishing his senior year in high school.
Endearing nicknames were a hallmark of Pat’s character. She raised Sherry-bug, Ricky-bird, Rosebud, Bear, and Park-It. In turn, she was given Marimoo, and in place of “grandma”, Biddy.
Once the kids were in school, Pat worked most of her life as a bank teller and teller trainer. In 2004, she and Bob moved to North Carolina to be near their son. Pat joined Rick’s company, Fluent Language Solutions, and worked in accounting until she retired in 2009.
Pat is preceded in death by her father, Harry Wahls, mother, Francis Wahls, and brother, Dick Cheek; she is survived by her sister Ginny Henning (husband Jim); many nieces and nephews, especially “my niece, Donna.”
