Friends and relatives are kindly invited to attend her Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 5, 2024. Visitation will be from 11 to 1pm with funeral service at 1pm at McEwen Funeral Charlotte Chapel, with burial to follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
Nancy was born on October 10, 1937 in High Point, North Carolina to Leo Harold Burnett Guyer and Maidie Viola Shipwash Guyer. She graduated from High Point High School in 1956. She made her first airplane flight solo on April 11, 1956 at Fraley Field. Nancy worked part time for North State Telephone Company, High Point, during her senior year of high school; and full time after graduation.
Nancy married William A. “Bill” Riley on August 29, 1957. They moved to Columbia for a short while and then relocated to Charlotte, N.C. in November of 1957. She then worked for Duke Power in Charlotte from December, 1957 until August, 1958. She was then employed at Southern Bell/Bell South in various positions, steno-clerk, Secretary, staff supervisor, staff manager from December, 1958 until retirement April 1, 1991. She then worked as a Tax Preparer for HR Block part time from 1981 until 1991 and was full time seasonally 1991 till 2010, including Office Manager in 1992.
Nancy was a 55 year member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Charlotte, serving as Church Treasurer for 24 years. She became Charter member of The Vine United Methodist Church when Kilgo UMC and St. Luke merged to become The Vine UMC. Nancy was a professional woman and worked diligently, but nothing gave her more joy than her family. She went above and beyond for her grandchildren, great grandchildren, her many nieces and nephews. She was not one to ask for help with her own needs but she was the first to offer up assistance in any way to her beloved family and friends. She will be dearly missed and forever cherished.
Nancy was preceded in death by; her parents Leo and Maidie Guyer, her beloved husband, Bill Riley, her cherished children, Douglas E. Riley and Mary Jane Riley Rainwater, her granddaughter, Allyson M. Riley, her siblings, Carolyn Guyer Stout, and Claude Thomas (Tommy) Guyer.
She is survived by; her dear son, Richard Allen Riley and his wife Dr. Pam Linker, her grandsons, Daniel A. Rainwater, Cody D. Rainwater and his wife Sarah, Dr. Bo Riley and his wife Allison, and Matthew (Matt) Riley; her step grandson Daniel Wilson; her great grandchildren Colby Riley Davis, Parker Riley Wray, Ella Grace Riley, Hannah Riley, Caleb Riley, Everleigh Jane Rainwater, and special children, Isabella and Trenton Wray; her daughters in law Christina Riley and Pat Ashworth and her husband Dave, her son in law, Bruce Rainwater and Marsha, her sister in law Sandee Guyer, and numerous nieces and nephews.
