Nancy graduated from Berryhill High School and went to work for Southern Bell at the age of 19. She worked there nearly 20 years and then served as the secretary at Berryhill Elementary School for 23 years, retiring in the early 1990’s. She continued living in the community and enjoyed chatting with former students while working as an election official at the neighborhood voting site.
Nancy was active in her church until her health and mobility prevented it. She was a member of Berryhill Baptist Church for 81 years. There she developed many close friendships and faithfully served her Lord. She served in many roles over the years, including Sunday School teacher, GA leader, and Bible School teacher. She continued to worship online when age and mobility prevented her attendance.
Nancy loved sports, playing fastpitch softball as a young adult and then watching her daughter and granddaughters play. She enjoyed watching the Hornets play and was a proud season ticket holder in their first few seasons in Charlotte. While never attending a game, she was a fan of the Carolina Panthers and rarely missed the games on TV.
She enjoyed being outdoors, particularly spending time at the river cabin on Lake Wylie. Summers were spent taking rides in the boat, teaching young people to ski, and rocking on the screen porch. She continued mowing her grass until she was in her 80’s. As her mobility decreased, Nancy enjoyed sitting in the swing on her front porch, drinking a Mountain Dew, eating a Butterfinger and waving at the neighbors driving by.
The family would like to thank Dr. George Raad for his many years of care, as well as many caregivers from ComfortKeepers. Memorials may be sent to Berryhill Baptist Church or Steele Creek Presbyterian Church at Pleasant Hill.
