Michael Ambrose Egglington Montgomery McMahan, age 37, of Charlotte, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, September 8 2013. Michael was born January 5, 1976 in Charlotte, NC. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas McMahan. After graduating from West Charlotte High School in 1994, Michael spent time at Our Lady of Guadalupe Monastery in Silver City, NM, while following his vocation. He was a lover of music and taught himself to play the guitar, bass guitar, and banjo. With a fondness for finding the humor in life, Michael was the constant comedian. He was known for his outrageous costumes and characters that were sure to bring a smile to the faces of all who knew him. Never meeting a stranger, Michael's zest for living in the moment was infectious. His late night shenanigans are now legend among his closest of friends and still bring laughter with the slightest of recollection. Michael worked in various fields ranging from timing belt manufacturing to large scale land grading and was an accomplished amateur brewmaster. He loved spending time outdoors especially during camping trips with family and friends. Michael was known as the friend that you could always count on being there. Generous at heart, he would give you the shirt off his back if it was the last thing he owned. Mike was was also the favorite uncle as he cherished time with his nieces and nephews. Michael is survived by his brothers Eireann, Kevin, John, Thomas Patrick (TP), Shannon, and Sean McMahan; his sisters Theresa McMahan and Kelly Palmeri; his ever-loving mother Virginia McMahan.; and several nieces and nephews. Michael is also survived by his devoted dog, Lilly. The viewing will be at 6:00pm to 8:00pm Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 at Wilson Funeral Home, 5301 Albemarle Rd., Charlotte, NC 28212-3611. The Requiem Mass will be sung at 9:00am sharp on Monday Sept. 16, 2013 at St. Anthony's of Padua Catholic Church, 108 Horseshoe Bend Beach Rd., Mt Holly, NC 28120 with the burial to follow immediately at St. James Catholic Cemetery, Gold Hill Road, Carrabus County, NC. Flowers may be sent to the church.
