As his testimony and legacy, Melton Jones sang about it, and lived it. The devoted husband, father and grandfather completed nearly 90 years on this part of his eternal journey before his cherished Lord and Savior welcomed him home on April 11, 2021.
Never wavering from his Christian foundation, Melton, 89, brought authentic love, infectious joy, and gentle-spirited humor into his interactions with others. A friend to all, the East Rockingham, N.C. native’s love of family, music and traveling marked “The Singing Jones’” 28 years of touring and singing Southern Gospel to advance the Kingdom of God. An ordained Deacon at Charlotte’s Crossroads Community Church, he was a lifelong member of the Church of God of Prophecy.
Born on July 14, 1931, Melton served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. For more than three decades, he built many homes throughout the region as the owner of Melton Jones Construction. In 1995, he retired as a department manager with the City of Charlotte.
Melton is survived by his wife of 43 years, Helen Lauderdale Jones of Charlotte; six children, Kent (Sherry) Jones of Cornelius, Marie (John) Edwards of Huntersville, Wanda (Steve) McAuley of Cornelius, Tim (Michele) Golden of Plano, TX; Mike (Jeannie) Golden of Rock Hill, SC; Melanie (David) Tolar of Ridgeville, SC, as well as 19 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and sister Glenda Lancaster of Blacksburg, SC. He was preceded in death by daughter Debbie Hicks, brothers Rhodell Jones, Bennie Jones and sister Univee Allen.
