Matt was born on September 12, 1978 in Miami, Florida but spent most of his childhood in Marietta, Georgia. He attended Walton High School and went on to graduate from the University of Tennessee in 2001.
Matt was employed by Thermo-Fisher Scientific where he worked in the Life Sciences Industry. He was well-respected among his peers and known for his dedication and ability to engage, mentor, and encourage others.
But more than anything, Matt was a devoted husband and father. He loved every minute spent with his family, traveling, being in nature, and sharing his witty sense of humor and energy for life with those he loved. He lived to serve others and always put his family first. He loved life and shared this love with his wife and children.
In his free time, Matt enjoyed many hobbies and interests. He loved playing golf, swimming, and mountain biking. His true love, however, was flying. He was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm for aviation with friends and family. Matt also loved to study history and was an avid reader.
Matt is survived by the love of his life and wife of 16 years, Kirsten Colbaugh Rodgers, and their children, Carter and Evelyn. He is also survived by his parents, Marsha and Knox Rodgers, and two sisters, Kelly Bunting and Allison Melton.
Matt’s life was cut short, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, forever.
A visitation of family and friends, and tribute to Matt will be held at The Club at Longview, 8801 Longview Club Drive, Waxhaw, NC from 1-4 on Sunday, April 27th, 2025.
