Mary Christina Moore, “Christi”, 34, of Charlotte, passed away on January 14, 2012 at Duke Medical Center in Durham. Christi fought a courageous battle against Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for 16 months and eventually died of complications from a bone marrow transplant. Formerly of Meadowmont View Drive; Christi graduated from Independence HS in 1995 and from UNC Charlotte in 1999 with a Bachelor’s in Communications. She was a member of Chi Omega Delta Kappa for four years and a “Diamond Girl” for Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Christi was a ferocious Duke Blue Devil’s Basketball fan. Christi had been employed in the makeup industry and found great joy in making women feel better. She never met a stranger.
She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents; Wren and Mary Cardwell of LaGrange, GA, her paternal grandparents; Charles Trenholm and Evelyn Moore of Matthews, NC, as well as her fiancée; Robert Michael Griffin.
She is survived by her parents, Kelly and Joyce Moore of Mint Hill, NC, her beloved dog; Montana, aunt; Patti (Frank) Weber of Weddington, NC, uncle; Doug (Joy) Moore of Mint Hill, NC, Cousins; Heather (Rob) Thomas and Clint Moore, Brant and Scott Weber; great nieces, Isabella and Terri and great nephew Mason, who loved their “Aunt Kitty”.
The family wishes to thank Dr. John Mahoney, Tracy Wilson and Lisa Holloda of Charlotte Oncology and Hematology, as well as the nurses at Duke MICU; Scott Zimmerman, Jennifer “Lynn” Jackson, Kevin McNamara, Ashley Gentry, Amy Primorac, Claudia Paren and all others not mentioned.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 11:00am at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church 11501 Bain School Road Mint Hill, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to “Dogs Day of Charlotte” 1720 Sterling Road Charlotte, NC 28209 who uses 100% of donated funds to save the lives of local dogs at high kill shelters.
