Mary Catherine Stewart Griffin

Mary Catherine Stewart Griffin, 98, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully in the early morning of March 1, 2015 at the Brian Center, Charlotte. She was born in Petersburg, VA November 19, 1916, daughter of the late Samuel Clyde Stewart and Jennie Scott Stewart. She graduated from Tech High School, Charlotte, NC in 1933 and attended Central Piedmont Community College in 1965. There she received her degree as an LPN. She married John Davis Griffin of Van Wyck, SC on October 6, 1937. After twenty-eight years of marriage, Mr. Griffin passed away in 1965.

Through the years she was employed by Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools as a cafeteria manager, Presbyterian Hospital and Mercy Hospital as an LPN and retired as an Audio Visual Film Inspector with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.

She was a loyal member of Glenwood A.R.P. Church for most of her adult life.

She is survived by her daughter, Alice Lynn and husband Benton Threadgill, of Summerville, SC, son, David Michael Griffin and wife Lorraine of Mint Hill, NC and five loving grandchildren to cherish her memory, Catherine E. Threadgill, Leigh Anne T. Vallejo, Christopher M. Griffin, Matthew S. Griffin and Natalie M. Griffin. She had five great-grandchildren: Joseph Griffin, Caleb Griffin, Daxton Porter, Christian Vallejo and Hannah Vallejo. She is survived by her sister, Helen Stewart Kerr, and preceded in death by sisters Sarah S. Massey, and Evelyn S. Freeman.

A service to the glory of God and in celebration of her life will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 5th of March, at Blair Road United Methodist Church with Pastor Lynn Upchurch officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment to immediately follow the service at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
