The daughter of Ed Winslow and Katherine Guin Winslow of Asheville, Martha, better known as Jean to many who knew her, was born on October 29, 1927. She is survived by her sons Kent Dover and wife Julie, and Victor Dover and wife Mari. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, and two of their children, Mark and Teresa, and is also survived by her grandchildren Michael and Katie Carpenter, Jessica Wisner, and Thomas and Theresa Lee Dover, as well as her great-grandchildren, Mrs. Wisner’s children Conner, Carson, and Miles.
Martha grew up in Asheville and graduated from Lee Edwards High School, now Asheville High School, at the top of her class. She attended The University of North Carolina at Greensboro before her family moved to Charlotte in 1952. She was a longtime employee of Stromberg Products in Charlotte.
A woman of strong faith, Martha was an active member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. When she was no longer able to actively participate in the church’s activities, she cherished the members’ frequent visits and phone calls.
Martha’s patience, strength, and courage were inspirational, and her radiant smile and kindness won’t be forgotten.
The family will receive friends Sunday, October 12 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 6401 Hickory Grove Road. A service to celebrate Mrs. Dover’s life will be held at 2:00 PM at the chapel, and interment will immediately follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Methodist Women Mission Giving Fund, 475 Riverside Drive, 15th Floor-Finance, New York, NY 10115 (make check payable to United Methodist Women and note project #3019233 on the memo line) or online at www.unitedmethodistwomen.org.
