Memories of Mom

Mother was truly devoted to her Family and taught us how important it is to have a relationship with God in our life.
I remember growing up at all the Family gatherings during holidays and birthdays.
All the gifts and great food she would cook, birthday cakes were special but the best gift we received  was how she would pray with all her heart of giving thanks for her family and of our many blessings and how she wanted to make sure her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren would have a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.  I can still remember seeing her glorious face after she would pray during family gatherings and when we all lifted our heads and opened our eyes I could see the tears of sincere compassion and love she had for all her family in her beautiful expression.

I also remember when I was a young girl how she would see opportunities to share about God.
I was riding in the car with mom and she saw a woman walking on Monroe Rd., 
mom stopped the car and asked if she needed a ride, she said yes.
Mom was taking that very moment in time to share about God's love for her.
I will always remember how she could talk and witness to anyone, anytime.

When she went to the grocery store or bank they would know her name and say Mama Sue's in the house.
She was also very humorous and made people,  laugh and smile and lifted  their spirits with encouragement.
She had a special gift of knowing the right words to say at the right time.

Toward her last year with Alzheimer's she still had a wonderful spirit about her and knew her children when she saw them.

All the staff at White Oak Nursing home said, they loved Martha and that she was so sweet and gracious and never complained.
They loved to see Martha sing and dance.  Mom recently enjoyed when Elvis came to sing at White Oak.
I want to Thank everyone who has cared for her as you are Angels on earth.

Mom also loved singing hymns with Dean every week.  She would sing right along with him tapping her foot with 
her eyes sparkling and smiling from the inside out.

Mom and I had special times in the hair salon at White Oak. We would sing while I fixed her hair and nails and talk about special memories and laugh. If I tried to hold a tear back somehow she would just know and comfort me. She still could encourage me and make me laugh when I needed it the most.  What an awesome mothers love.  We also enjoyed going outside looking at the flowers, blue sky and getting fresh air and sunshine.

I want to send a special thank you to my sister Sherrie.  She has been the one daughter who has devoted her life to care for mother with great strength, courage and endurance.  She always made sure mom had everything she needed.  She was always there for mother night and day. They both always said to each other we are as close as a heartbeat  and she said this up till moms last breath.

I know mom enjoyed Marshall recently bringing her Bojangles sweet potato pie and taking her outside to enjoy the morning birds singing at White Oak.  I know mom enjoyed the special visits with Susan and Derrick as well.

How incredibly blessed we have been to have a precious mother to cherish forever.

I believe with all my heart she is singing and dancing in Heaven.

Proverbs 31:28
Her children will rise up and call her blessed.

Memories of Mom

When we were young our kitchen looked more like a small café than a kitchen with an L shaped bar with padded stools that you could ride like a merry go round. 
When I was about five years old, one evening, mom was serving up Vanilla ice cream to us all. 
I wasn't very fond of vanilla ice cream so I decided I'd spice mine up by putting salt on it. It worked on other foods, so I figured it would work with this plain ice cream too. So I asked mom to give me the salt shaker and she asked What are you gonna do with it? I told her I was going to put it on my ice cream. She said, Are you sure you want to do that? and I said, sure! It would make it taste better.
So she slid the salt shaker down the bar to me. And she watched with a grin as I started to put salt on my ice cream. When I took that first bite, she could tell by my face it was terrible. She asked Is it good? And I said Yea! It's real good! She laughed as I kept on eating it, too proud to admit I messed it up. After consuming almost half of it, I slid off the bar stool and started running to the bathroom to wash my mouth out. She said, Where are you going, don't you like your ice cream? I just replied, yep it's good but I'm full, and kept going. When I got to the bathroom, I could hear them all laughing and I knew it was about me. 
That's about all the tough love I ever got from mom, but as a small child, I learned early on to listen to her advice and trust her and dad's judgment over mine. 

I will love you for ever Mom!

My thoughts and prayers are with Martha's family.  Her husband, Clifford's g-father, James Osville Moore, was a brother of my g-father, G. C. Moore.  May the happy memories they shared help them through their grief.
